Stephen Poliakoff

Stephen Poliakoff ( born December 1, 1952 in London ) is a British playwright, author and director.

Life

The son of a Russian-Jewish father and an English - Jewish mother began as a teenager with the writing of plays and studied at the University of Cambridge later. He first achieved attention in 1975 with the two plays "Hitting Town" and " City Sugar", which turned to the young city dwellers in a UK shopping centers and consumption. This was followed a few pieces with the same topic, while " Breaking the Silence " (1984), which is located in the aftermath of the Russian October Revolution, when his best piece applies. "Coming Into Land" (1987 ) deals with a female Polish refugee who seeks happiness in the UK. Other plays have included "Shout Across the River" (1978), " Sienna Rde " (1992) and " Remember This " (1999).

In addition to stage plays he also wrote television plays such as " Caught on a Train " (1980). His debut as a film director he made in 1987 with "Hidden City" and filmed in 1991 his piece "Hitting Town" under the title " Close My Eyes ". His collected works he published during the years 1989, 1994 and 1998 under the titles "Plays One, Two Plays, Plays Three".

His brother Martyn Poliakoff, a chemist who became known to the wider public for his involvement with the film series "The Periodic Table of Videos"
