Stepney Green tube station

Stepney Green is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2, at the intersection of Mile End Road and Globe Road. Here there is a District Line and the Hammersmith & City Line. In 2011, 4.38 million passengers used the station. In the vicinity is the campus of Queen Mary and Westfield College.

The station was opened on 2 June 1902 the Whitechapel and Bow Railway, a joint venture between the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor company of the District Line ) and the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. Electrical subways frequented from 1905. In 1923, the station in the possession of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway went on, after the nationalization of the railways in 1950 at London Underground. The Metropolitan Line operated Stepney Green for the first time on March 30, 1936 ( the branch line to Barking in 1988 transferred to the Hammersmith & City Line ).
