Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis orientalis)

The Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis ) is a species of bird in the genus of the Real Eagle ( Aquila).

Description

The Steppe Eagle has a body length of about 62 to 74 cm and a wingspan of 165-190 cm. Its appearance is uniform brown without distinct field mark. The swing tips are mostly black. In Flight image it is characterized by the relatively short, wedge-shaped tail, which has no banding. Often, a light (beige to off-white ) binding is present on the lower secondaries.

The Steppe Eagle comes from Romania on the Aral steppes as far as the Trans-Baikal and Mongolia before. He is in steppes and open, overgrown with bushes levels at home. Accordingly, it finds its nest on the ground. It eats mainly small mammals, especially ground squirrels, but other rodents, lizards and carrion.

The Steppe Eagle is an obligate migratory bird with wintering sites in eastern Africa. In Central Europe, the Steppe Eagle is a very rare Irrgast. Most evidence is there for Hungary and Poland. Also captivity refugees are observed in Central Europe and over again.

From the IUCN steppe eagle is classified despite slight decreases coming as " not at risk ". The total population is estimated 100,000 to 1 million animals.
