Sterkspruit is a city in the South African province of the Eastern Cape. It is located in the municipality Senqu Joe Gqabi district. The village is located approximately 65 kilometers north-east of Aliwal North ( 80 km by car ) and about 25 kilometers from near the border with Lesotho. The town has 1,893 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). For site include several townships.

The name is Afrikaans and means " strong tributary ". Sterkspruit with its surroundings was an exclave long for Homeland Transkei. With the dissolution of the homelands also Sterkspruit came to the Eastern Cape Province.

Sterkspruit is on the road R393 that connects Lady Grey in the southwest with Quthing in the east. The R726 branches north of Sterkspruit direction from Zastron.
