Sternburg

The name Star Castle, colloquially " Sterni " means, on the one hand, part of the group Radeberger beer brand from Leipzig, but on the other it is often used for its best-selling product "star castle Export" used. With a market share of 9.5 % in 2006 Star Castle is the beer brand with the largest sales in East Germany, it was decided not to 2011 entirely on advertising.

History

The origin of star castle dates back to the year 1278, in which a brewery was first mentioned in the manor between Elster and millpond. After the manor as well as the landlord's Brewery was acquired in 1405 by William of Mechfritz, 1822 the manor came into the possession of Maximillian Bacon, who had acquired it to breed sheep there. As Maximillian Bacon was knighted, he asked to be allowed to call themselves Star Castle. First, however, allowed the beer in Leipzig not be sold, and so acquired the bacon Leipzig castle cellar and received in April 1823 fully licensed by the Leipzig city council. At that time, about 30,000 hectoliters of beer per year were sold.

In 1948, the ownership was transferred to public ownership to 1968 form an operating part of the VEB Kombinat drinks Leipzig. In the wake of German reunification, the independent company "star Brauerei GmbH" in cooperation with the Stuttgart Hofbrauhaus was founded in 1990. The elimination of export opportunities, the production volume decreased to 60,000 hectoliters.

So it was sold to the Sachsenbräu AG, which coincided with the closure of the brewery site Lützschena and the relocation of production to the Reudnitzer brewery. The company thus became a 100 percent subsidiary of the Dortmunder Brau & Brunnen AG.

In 1992, the reintroduction of "Star Castle export " and " Star Castle Pilsener " in the low price segment. In 1997, the variety " Star Castle Black Beer " was introduced and "star castle Export" received the CMA label. Both "star castle Pilsener " received a year later, the CMA quality label, as well as "star castle black beer " in 1999.

2002 reached Sternenburg export to Germany an export beer market share of 48 % and the variety " Star Castle Radler " was introduced, "star castle Diesel" followed in 2003 and "Star Castle Doppelkaramel " in 2004. During 2005, the variety was followed by "Star Castle Hefeweizen ".

Since 1 January 2006, the brand is part of the Radeberger Gruppe KG. The last launch was in 2008, the "star castle prototype".
