Old village core

Stetten is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

Geography

Stetten is located on a hill a few kilometers northeast of the town of Schaffhausen to about 570 m above sea level.

Waters

Due to the elevated position and the highly calcareous soil found in Stetten little surface water. An exception is the deeper pond at Herblingen Castle.

Population

Stetten is distinguished for several years by a strong population growth. Reasons for this growth are low tax rates, the convenient location near the town of Schaffhausen and the recently -developed and attractive preferred development area Schalmenacker. Various constructions of single-family homes have been taken in this area launched in 2006 /2007.

Traffic

Stetten is served by the Reiatlinie ( line 24) of the RVSH ( SchaffhausenBus ) from Schaffhausen to Opfertshofen and Thayngen. The stops between wage and Herblingen glad as follows: States rings Lacker, Sun ( only on students, relief and night courses at weekends), Front Village, Rietwies and Braati.

History

Stetten was first documented in 1080. The monasteries of St. Agnes in Schaffhausen and St. Katharinental in Diessenhofen were owners of the goods from Stetten. 1529 and 1534 separated the monasteries from the possession and Stetten came to Schaffhausen. 1820/1821, the village acquired its own seal. The crescent moon lying is still the municipal coat of arms. With a big storm in September 1836 Stetten was hit the hardest. Several houses were severely damaged and devastated many fields.

During the First World War, the Georg Fischer AG built for their workers, the settlement pattern Pantli. 26 apartments for 120 workers emerged at the southern end community. 1975, it was all torn down.

In the records of Stetten 1749 is already a "sign " mentioned. Whether this already is the only coat of arms or initials, can not find his way out. For the first time appeared a community Siegel 1820. There is a crescent moon lying dar. How did it come to this coat of arms, can not be ascertained with certainty. Possibly served as a template the crest of a bailiff of Schaffhausen, sealed, as governors or church wardens files. Of these, at least three genders wore a crescent moon in the arms. In the cleanup in 1951 was maintained at this coat of arms.
