Steve Bales

Steve Bales (* about 1943 or 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa) was aerospace engineer at NASA, where Flight Controller and Guidance Officer ( GUIDO ). The 25 -year-old Bales was known for his decision, the flight of Apollo 11 just before landing on the moon not to break, despite massive computer problems and excessive speed of the Lunar Module.

Training

Born in Ottumwa in Iowa and raised in Fremont, Steve Bales studied at Iowa State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering specialist.

NASA

Immediately after graduating, he entered the service of NASA in December 1964. There he served as flight director and flight guidance officer ( Guidance Officer ) for automatic trajectory calculation by the so-called guidance system aboard Gemini 3, Gemini and Gemini 4 10

Later career

Bales later career culminated in the position of Deputy Director of Operations of the Johnson Space Center. He left NASA in 1996 and took a job with Amspec Chemical in New Jersey.
