Steve Barton

Steve Barton ( born June 26, 1954 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA, † July 21, 2001 in Bremen, Germany ) was an American actor, singer, dancer, musical performer, choreographer, director and teacher.

Life

Steve Neal Barton was born in Hot Springs (Arkansas ) as the youngest of three children of his parents, Tom and Mary Barton. He grew up in Nederland ( Texas), on. Later he got a triple scholarship from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied acting, dancing and singing. During this time he has performed in over 30 productions of the University and with the Ballet Austin. After successful graduation, he went to Europe. Steve Barton got his first job in St. Gallen in Switzerland and then played at leading theaters in Switzerland, in Germany and in Austria, predominantly in leading roles of world premieres.

Steve Barton starred in West Side Story, Godspell, Romeo and Juliet, The Fantasticks, The Threepenny Opera, Oklahoma!, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Guys and Dolls and Camelot before it, the role of Munkustrap (Dance Capitan ) in Austria in the original Viennese cast of Cats, took over at the Theater an der Wien.

At the Theatre of the West in Berlin, he played roles in Guys and Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar ( as Jesus ), La cage aux folles, (as Jean Michel and Albin / Zaza ) and he was playing the role of Robert in Company. The choreographer Gillian Lynne took Steve Barton from Berlin to London and he was recommended by her for Andrew Lloyd Webber's world - premiere of The Phantom of the Opera. In this musical, he created the role of Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny and alternated with Michael Crawford into the role of the Phantom.

Steve Barton in 1996 - after a period of more than twelve years - back to Vienna to take over at the Raimund Theater, the main role of the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast by Ethan Freeman. Then he created, also at the Raimund Theater, the main role of the Count of Krolock in the world premiere of Jim Steinman's German-language musical Dance of the Vampires. This role earned him 1998, the award IMAGE ( International Music Award, Germany). In 1997, Steve Barton also able to celebrate 30 years on stage in the role of Count von Krolock be. He played the Count of Krolock of 4 October 1997 to 17 January 1999. Tanz der Vampire was also the last musical in which Steve Barton was on stage. Barton was married since 1978 with the dancer and choreographer Denny Berry, whom he had met while studying. The couple has a son, who was born in Vienna in 1984. Steve Barton and Denny Berry had held a Foundation at the University of Texas, which was named after them. Steve Barton was also honorary chairman for the Steadman / Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation and an honorary board member of Education at the University of Texas at Austin.

Steve Barton died on 21 July 2001 at the age of 47 from heart failure. His ashes were buried in August 2001 in his home in Texas.
