Steve Chettle

Stephen "Steve" Chettle ( born September 27, 1968 in Nottingham, England ) is an English former football player who was particularly known for his time at Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest

Steve Chettle began his professional career in 1986 at his hometown club Nottingham Forest. The club has been trained in this time of coaching legend Brian Clough, who had performed as a newly promoted Nottingham in 1978 winning the championship title in the First Division in 1979 and 1980 to win the European Cup.

As Chettle with 18 years in Forests launched by the first team, this very successful period was back already 6 years. He also had the bad luck to start his career a year after the Heysel disaster, in consequence of all English clubs were excluded for 5 years from international competition. Nottingham Forest could not start in the UEFA Cup so despite two third places in the seasons 1987/88 and 1988/89. After Chettle had failed with his team in 1988 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Liverpool, he scored in the 1988/89 season again in the semi-final the team from Liverpool. The game took place as usual in this round on neutral ground and place as last year in Hillsborough Stadium. The game on April 15, 1989 should go down as Hillsborough disaster on inglorious way in the football history. Broken game was rescheduled on 7 May in Manchester and won from Liverpool FC 3-1.

In the league, it was enough for the next three years, only to placements in mid-table, but succeeded in 1991, the first place in the final of the FA Cup since 1959. Chettle left after this season after 13 years his club and moved to FC Barnsley.

Barnsley FC

After a short loan deal of Barnsley FC Steve Chettle committed in 1999 to a fixed contract basis. Barnsley was active at that time in the Football League First Division and thus in the second division. In the 1999/2000 season, he reached with his team to fourth, but missed the play- offs promotion to the Premier League. The following year, it was only enough for a 16th place in the table, and after the team's relegation in the 2001/ 02 season as a table next to last in the third English league, left Chettle Barnsley and moved to FC Walsall.

Grimsby Town

Steve Chettle remained with his club change the First Division faithful, but increased with his new club Grimsby Town 2002/ 03 also in the third division and then moved on to Burton Albion.

Burton Albion

Burton Albion in 2003 /04 only active in the amateur field, but was trained by Chettles former teammate Nigel Clough, who was able to convince him of a change. After another year in amateur Steve Chettle finished his career in 2005 at the age of 36 years and since then cares primarily about its own football school in Nottingham.
