Steve Downie

Steve Downie ( born April 3, 1987 in Newmarket, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays since October 2013 at the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League for the position of right winger.

Career

Steve Downie began his career in 2002 in junior league OPJHL at the Aurora Tigers, where he came up with 25 points in 34 games. For the season 2003/ 04 he moved to the high-class junior league Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires, where he had a solid debut season and was especially noticeable by being physically tough game. In his second year he was one of the best players in the Spitfires and scored 21 goals and made 52 assists. Shortly after his return to the Petes they transferred him within the OHL Kitchener Rangers to where he could continue his hitherto best season to hit 92 points scorer at the end in 45 games. In the playoffs, he continued his good performance and was the dominant player in the Rangers with eight goals and 14 assists in just nine games. However, the team failed already in the second round. Following the OHL season, he came to his debut in the seniors as he played with the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Flyers farm team of the American Hockey League, a game.

In September 2007, he again took part in the training camp of the Philadelphia Flyers and played some warm-up matches. During a game against the Ottawa Senators he checked his opponent Dean McAmmond against the head, whereupon McAmmond remained unconscious lying on the ice.
