Music

While Gibbons with its initial formations, according to the spirit of the times, also played psychedelic pop in a similar style as some early pieces of the status quo (eg Pictures of Matchstick Men), he later switched to classic rock 'n ' roll, in particular the influence of Chuck Berry can not deny, and soulful ballads. In recent years, he broadened his live performances at his musical base growing. In addition to elements of the blues and rock ' n ' roll can be found in his interpretations now also elements of country, rockabilly, rhythm 'n' blues, bebop or Tex -Mex. Hierbau built in his own songs often quotes from the history of rock, from the Beatles to Jimy Hendrix through to punk, a. A particular trademark is presented with his British humor introductions and narrative games during the songs. Vocally comes Gibbons Bob Dylan very close. He was also referred to as " the English Bob Seger ".

Many of his songs tell (as far as the Kinks not dissimilar ) Stories from the life of the British working class in the years after the Second World War. Common topics are beyond Motorcycles ( Triumph Bonneville, Harley Davidson, Do not trade me in ( for a new model ) ) and the music and life as a musician (He gave his live for Rock ' n' Roll, British Rock 'n 'Roll, Let there be Bebop ).

Stefan Radlmaier, the features editor of the Nürnberger Nachrichten characterized the artistic merit of Gibbons as follows: "The world is unfair. If it were not so, would a man like Steve Gibbons long been a place of honor in the pantheon of rock ' n ' roll and would occur in giant arenas " ( Nürnberger Nachrichten on 26 March 2003 ).
