Steve Hegg

Steve Hegg ( born December 3, 1963 in Dana Point ) is a former American professional cyclist.

Hegg 1963 American Champion in the Team Pursuit. In 1984 he was U.S. champion in the 4000m individual pursuit. In the Summer Olympic Games in 1984 in Los Angeles, he raced in the one - and in the team pursuit. Hegg won the individual pursuit at the German Rolf Golz and his compatriot Leonard Nitz. With the team Hegg also reached the final, which was surprisingly lost with superior technical material equipped and highly favored Americans against Australia. Shortly after the competitions in Los Angeles turned out that Hegg and Nitz had doped with foreign blood. But this had no consequences for the athletes, as this practice was not then prohibited.

1986 Hegg won again the national championships in the Team Pursuit, 1987 at the Pan American Games, the team time trial on the road. 1989 and 1990 Hegg was national champion in the individual pursuit again, in 1990, he was named U.S. champion in the time trial. Hegg 1994 was U.S. champion in the road race, in 1995 and again in 1996 national champion in the 4000m individual pursuit and qualified so to participate in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, but where he failed to win a medal. Hegg, who was a professional since 1988, ended his active career in 2001.

2006 Steve Hegg was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American cycling.
