Steve Israel

Steve J. Israel (* May 30, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and since 2001 a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of New York.

Biography

Israel, the son of Jewish immigrants, was born in 1958 in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his schooling at Nassau Community College and George Washington University. He was elected to the town board of Huntington 1993. Here he exercised his office until 2001.

2000, Israel was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He followed the Republican Rick Lazio, representing the second district of New York Congress. In the elections of 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010, he was always confirmed in his office. After the 2010 elections it was revealed that he will take over from 2011 as the successor to Chris Van Hollen the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. It was proposed by Nancy Pelosi.

Israel lives with his wife Marlene Budd and his two daughters in Huntington on Long Iceland. He is Jewish.
