Steve James (producer)

Steve James ( born November 30, 1953 in Hampton, Virginia, USA) is an Oscar -nominated American film director and producer.

Life and achievements

James graduated in 1977 James Madison University, in the U.S. state of Virginia. In 1985, he graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he had studied film. Since then, he acts as a director, producer, editor and writer in film and television. In sports film Joe and Max with Til Schweiger, Leonard Roberts and Peta Wilson he directed. The television film based on the life of boxer Joe Louis and Max Schmeling.

In 1994 James won the Audience Prize for his first feature film Hoop Dreams at the Sundance Film Festival. In 1995 he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing this documentary in the category, also received the MTV Movie Award, a DGA Award of the Directors Guild of America and the American Cinema Editors Eddie the. James has also won various other awards for his work.

He is married to Judy James, has three children and lives in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago.
