Steve Lewis (musician)

Steve Lewis ( born March 19, 1896 in New Orleans, † 1941) was an American jazz pianist and composer.

Life and work

Lewis worked with the Silver Leaf Orchestra and Armand Piron; with Piron and Peter Bocage, he joined several years in the Tranchina 's Restaurant on. The mid- 1910s, he joined the Storyville District on with his own band, which also includes Zutty Singleton belonged. In 1917 he went with a revue, which was headed by Bill and Mary Mack, on tour. The following year he returned to New Orleans, where he again worked with Piron, with whom he went to New York. He also played in the Olympic Orchestra.

Lewis, who also wrote songs like Kiss Me Sweet, worked with 1923-1926 to 15 recording sessions, including with singer Willie Jackson. In the late 1920s, he increasingly worked as a piano teacher and taught, among others, Luis Russell.
