Steve Nelson (vibraphonist)

Steve Nelson ( born August 11, 1954 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American vibraphonist and was more than a decade a member of Dave Holland's Quintet and Big Band. He took over the role, which usually has a pianist there.

Steve Nelson came to the vibraphone by the father of a friend, George Monroe, who was a talented Amateurvibraphonist. Steve Nelson is influenced by Milt Jackson, and his solos are characterized by large thematic ingenuity, though his overall sound is not always easy or catchy.
