Steve Scott (athlete)

Steve Scott (actually: Steven Michael Scott, born May 5, 1956 in Upland, California) is an American former middle and long distance runners.

His special line was the mile run at the under 4 minutes he remained 136 times, more often than any other runner. His U.S. record over this distance of 1982 was broken by Alan Webb in 2007.

In 1980, he won the U.S. eliminator over 1500 m for the Olympic Games in Moscow, where he started but not because of the U.S. boycott of the games.

In 1983, he won over the same distance silver at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki behind Steve Cram. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he was tenth in the World Cup 1987 in Rome twelfth and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in fifth place.

From 1986 to 1988 he won three times in succession, the Carlsbad 5000 and put on his first and third win each a world record in the 5 - km road race on.

Steve Scott is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine. In 1994 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but was healed. Since then he has worked as a trainer. He lives with his wife in Carlsbad and is the father of two sons.
