Steve Simonsen

Steven Simonsen ( born April 3, 1979 in South Shields, Tyne and Wear ) is an English footballer. The goalkeeper stands since 2012 at Preston North End under contract.

Career

Tranmere & Everton

Simonsen started his professional career in 1996 at Tranmere Rovers as a junior player. In November 1997, he made his league debut against Stoke City in the Football League First Division and was subsequently a regular player at Tranmere. In September 1998, he was committed for 3.3 million pounds from the first division club FC Everton, the then record fee for a British goalkeeper.

Although Simonsen was considered one of the greatest young talents in England, it was not possible to establish himself in the first team of Everton him. In six seasons, he came to a total of only 30 league operations. He made his debut until the 1999/2000 season in two League Cup games against Oxford United, in which he could not convince. Under Walter Smith, who had brought him to Everton, he was in the 2001/ 02 season, partly regulars and completed 25 league games. After David Moyes appointed coach of the club in the summer of 2002, Simonsen lost his place to Richard Wright. Stoke City

In the second division Stoke City, he signed a one -year contract and became an instant first-choice goalkeeper.
