Steve Stevaert

Steve Stevaert ( born April 12, 1954 in Rijkhoven ) is a Belgian (Flemish ) politicians sp.a, the Socialist Party of Flanders.

Biography

After studying at a hotel school Stevaert led in 1972 a restaurant. From 1985 to 1995 he sat in the Provincial Council of Limburg.

Stevaert 1995 Mayor and member of the local council in Hasselt. Here he led from 1997 free transport by bus one. He was in Belgium, but also internationally. His nickname Steve stunt he owes, among others, of this activity.

From 1995 to 1999 Stevaert sat also in the Parliament of Flanders ( Vlaams Parlement ). He was a Flemish Vice - Premier and Minister of Transport. In 2003 he was again MP Patrick Janssens and followed in the presidency of the Sp.A.

On 1 June 2005, he assumed the post of provincial governor of Limburg. The chair of the sp.a he gave to Caroline Gennez because he wanted to be as a provincial governor, no transitional figure. He was the fifteenth governor of the province of Limburg and the first socialist in this office. In 2009, he was replaced by Herman Reynders.
