Steven Brian Stone ( born August 20, 1971 in Gateshead, England ) is a former English footballer

Nottingham Forest

Steve Stone began his football career at Nottingham Forest. Forest played at this time in the First Division and reached in the 1988/89 season the semi-finals of the FA Cup against Liverpool. Portsmouth

His team played this season in the Football League Championship, but managed after a very strong season with 29 wins in 46 games and table number 1 promotion to the Premier League. After 13th place in the Premier League 2003/ 04, he graduated with his team the Premier League 2004 /05 as from 16. After this season, he signed the last contract of his career and moved to Leeds United.

Leeds United

The now 34 -year-old Steve Stone came in his first year in Leeds due to injuries only at the end of the season to a few uses. United reached number 5, missed the play- offs but the climb. In the season 2006/07, Stone was able to achieve his second goal for his team against West Bromwich Albion, but decided to end his career by re- occurring injuries in December 2006.

England national team

His debut in the national team celebrated Steve Stone in October 1995 in a friendly against Norway. His first goal he succeeded in his second international game in a 3-1 home win against Switzerland. For taking place in England European Football Championship 1996 Stone was appointed coach Terry Venables in the squad and came in the first two group games against Switzerland and Scotland respectively used. In the quarterfinals, he got substituted in extra time against Spain and moved to 4-3 on penalties after the semi-finals. There failed his team on penalties to Germany without him was used. After Venables resigned after the European Championships, Steve Stone was no longer appointed by the successor Glenn Hoddle in the national team.
