Steve Symms

Steven Douglas "Steve" Symms ( born April 23, 1938 in Nampa, Idaho) is an American politician. The Republicans represented Idaho in both chambers of the Congress of the United States.

Life

Steve Symms, a graduate of Caldwell High School, studied business administration at the University of Idaho, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1960. He then worked for three years as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps. As a young man he took over the farm of his parents and the family Symms Fruit Ranch, Inc., which had been dedicated to the production and sale of fruit. He walked also after the end of the 1960s briefly the career of a journalist when he was co-editor of the Idaho Compass approximately two years.

Symms, who was by this time known neither to the State nor the federal level, a candidate in 1972 with success for a seat in the House of Representatives of the United States. He was sworn in on January 3, 1973 and re-elected three times after that. In 1980, he announced his candidacy for the office of U.S. Senator. Once again he was able to record a success because he was able to defeat the long-term Democratic incumbent Frank Church. Symms, who took up his new mandate on January 3, 1981 completed two terms as senator and retired on January 3, 1993 from the second chamber of Congress.

After his retirement from politics, he founded a management consultant company Symms, Lehn Associates, Inc. In 1999, he opened and his partner John Haddow Symms Haddow & Associates. Today is Symms co-owner of lobbyists firm Parry, Romani, DeConcini & Symms, which was also the former U.S. Democratic Senator Dennis DeConcini of Arizona is involved.

Steve Symms is, although a strictly conservative Republicans, who with several women entertain an affair during his time in Washington, and this despite the fact he was married. Mid-1970s, he also had a relationship with his chief of staff and campaign manager, Helen Chenoweth - Hage, who was also later elected to Congress. He now lives with his second wife Loretta in Virginia.

Steve Symms is a nephew of Elmo Smith, a former Governor of Oregon, and cousin of former Congressman Denny Smith.
