Steve Tambellini

Steven Anthony Tambellini ( born May 14, 1958 in Trail, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current - functionary. Between 2008 and 2013 he worked as general manager of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Steve Tambellini began his career as a hockey player with the Lethbridge Broncos, for 1978 he was active in 1975 in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League. He was then selected in the NHL Amateur Draft 1978 in the first round than a total of 15 players from the New York Islanders. After spending almost the entire 1978/79 season at the Fort Worth Texans of the Central Hockey League, was the attacker end of the season his debut in the National Hockey League for the New York Islanders. With the Islanders, he won in the following season for the first and only time the prestigious Stanley Cup. This he left after two years and joined their league rivals Vancouver Canucks at, for in the NHL, he stood until 1988 on the ice. His active career ended the Olympians from 1988 in Europe, where he spent one season each with the Zurich SC in the Swiss National League B and EC VSV in the Austrian Hockey League until 1990. With the ZSC he got here as second division champions on in the National League A.

After end of his career as a hockey player Tambellini worked for his former club Vancouver Canucks in the NHL in different functions. In the franchise he has worked as Director of Public and Media Relations, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations and Vice President of Player Personnel. On 14 April 2008 he was temporarily appointed assistant general manager of the Canucks after Dave Nonis was fired. From 31 July 2008, he worked as general manager for the Edmonton Oilers. In April 2013 he was released by the Oilers and in this function replaced by Craig MacTavish.

At international level, the former NHL player was Director of Player Personnel for the Canadian national team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the World Cup of Hockey 2004. In this function he was responsible for de - U20 Junior World Cup in 2003 and U18 Junior World Championship 2003, the national teams of Canada.

In 2004, Tambellini was inducted into the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For Canada Tambellini participated in the Junior World Cup 1978, as well as the Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1988 in part.
