Steve Vickers (ice hockey)

Steve James Vickers (* April 21, 1951 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( left wing ), who played from 1972 to 1982 for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.

Career

Vickers played during his junior time with the Toronto Marlboros in the OHA, along with Dale Tallon and Steve Shutt. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1971, he was selected by the New York Rangers in the first round as a whole tenth.

After a year at the Omaha Knights of the Central Hockey League, he made ​​the jump to the NHL and was from the 1972/73 season in the Rangers squad. In a series with Walt Tkaczuk and Bill Fairbairn, he was able to prevail with his physically robust game. 53 points scorer helped him win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie of the year.

In the following years he claimed to be a solid NHL player. Twice he took part in the NHL All-Star Game. When his performance in the 1981/82 season subsided, he was discharged to the Springfield Indians in the AHL. With 31 years he ended his active career.
