Steve Waugh

Steve Rodger Waugh ( born June 2, 1965 in Canterbury, Australia ) is a former Australian cricketer. He was voted one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1989.

Career

During his career, Steve Waugh completed 168 tests for Australia. No other cricketer has participated in more Test matches to date. His test debut Waugh in December 1985 against India in Melbourne. Overall, he scored 10927 runs ( 51.06 runs per wicket ) in his 168 Tests played. He is still the only cricketer who scored against all other nine teams with test status of at least 150 runs in a Test innings. Steve Waugh is one of only eight cricket players who have scored at least 10,000 test runs during their career. He is also one of nine Australian players who can have a career average of 50 runs per wicket in tests. In 1999, he broke Mark Taylor from as captain of the Australian Test team. He was captain of the Australian team, of which 41 were obtained in a total of 57 tests. No other captain in the history of Test cricket may have a higher winning percentage ( 71.93 percent). His last test for the Australian team completed Steve Waugh in January 2004 against India in Sydney. In addition, he played 325 One- Day Internationals ( ODIs ) for Australia, where he. Overall 7569 runs scored (32.9 runs per wicket ) With the Australian team Waugh participated in four Cricket World Cups (1987, 1992, 1996 and 1999). Two times, namely in 1987 and 1999, he won with the team the title. Steve Waugh is the older twin brother of Mark Waugh, also test cricketer for Australia.

Others

Steve Waugh was elected in 2004 for Australian of the Year. For his services to cricket sport, he was awarded in 2003 by Elizabeth II of the Order of Australia. In January 2010, he was formally included in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
