Stevens County (Kansas)

Stevens County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hugoton. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southwest of Kansas, on the south by Oklahoma, is located in the west about 45 miles from Colorado and has an area of ​​1885 square kilometers without significant water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Grant County, Haskell County, Seward County, Morton County and Stanton County.

History

Stevens County was formed on August 3, 1886. It was named after the later American statesman Thaddeus Stevens.
