Stevens County (Minnesota)

The Stevens County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 9726 inhabitants and a population density of 6.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Morris.

Geography

The County is located in a lakeside scenery in western Minnesota, about 50 km southeast of the intersection of the states of North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. It has an area of 1490 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers of water are. The county is traversed from north to south from the Pomme de Terre River, a left tributary of the opening into the Mississippi River Minnesota. History

The Stevens County was formed February 20, 1862 from parts of the only still existing in Wisconsin Pierce County and Indian lands. It was named after Isaac Ingalls Stevens, the first governor of Washington Territory and brigadier general of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
