Stibor of Stiboricz

Stibor zo Stiboríc a Beckova ( German Stibor of Stiborice and Beckov, also Ctibor of Stiboric I.. ) (*, ? † 1414) was an aristocrat of Polish origin in today's Slovakia. He was (eg Beckov ) often called due to its numerous possessions as " small Slovakian King".

Life

Stibor was built by King Ludwig I. (Hungary ) invited into the Kingdom of Hungary. And he stood in the throne struggles after the death of this king on the side of Sigismund of Luxembourg, he was rewarded by that from 1388 with great possessions and high offices. He was, for example, the prefect of the county Pressburg, later also of the counties Trenčín, Nitra and Banská Bystrica. Some twenty years after his appearance in the Kingdom of Hungary belonged Stibor almost the entire western half of present-day Slovakia and he described himself as "Lord of the whole Waag site". In addition, he occasionally also introduced the title of "Duke of Transylvania " and is often referred to as a member of the Dragon.

He was also commander of Emperor Sigismund in the crusade against the Turks, who with the disastrous defeat of the Crusaders ended on September 28, 1396 at the Battle of Nicopolis.

Stibors son of the same name, Stibor zo Stiboríc II fought for Emperor Sigismund especially the Hussites in today's Slovakia. Stibor II, however, had no son, so his family after his death ( in 1434 ) became extinct and fell back his possessions to the Hungarian crown.
