Stickeen Territories

The Stikine Territory (written during the 19th century usually Stickeen ) was a territory in British North America that existed from 19 July 1862 to July 1863.

A gold rush in immediately westerly part of Alaska had attracted settlers to the region. The British colonial authorities separated from the region of the possessions of the Hudson 's Bay Company and built a administration. Named after the Stikine River territory fell within the jurisdiction of the governor of neighboring Southern British Columbia and under the jurisdiction of that colony. The 62nd degree formed the northern border, the 125th longitude of the eastern border.

Only a year later the Stikine Territory of the colony of British Columbia was incorporated, along with the Queen Charlotte Islands. The strip of land north of the 60th parallel dropped back to the Northwestern Territory.
