Stiepel Priory

The monastery Stiepelmann, a Cistercian monastery in the Bochum district Stiepelmann, was founded in 1988 and is a priory. It is subordinate to the abbot of Holy Cross, a Cistercian abbey in Austria. The foundation of the monastery was an initiative of the first bishop of the diocese of the Ruhr, Franz Hengsbach.

The church is also Marian shrine to the miraculous image of the " Sorrowful Mother of Stiepelmann " and as such the only Marian shrine of the diocese. The wings of the monastery are located around the Wallfahrtshof U-shaped. An outdoor altar opens to the west into the countryside towards. The monks' cells are in the attic; their location is apparent in each of the associated dormer. The monastery is affiliated with a leased restaurant ( " cloister ").

The Latin Liturgy of the Hours of the monastic community and the trade fairs in the church are public.

History

" On the feast of the holy abbot Bernard of Clairvaux four Cistercian were sent from the abbey of Heiligenkreuz Lower Austria of their abbot Gerhard Hradil to a monastery founded in the Diocese of Essen in 1988, where among the first Prior ordered Father Bede Zilch at the church they BMV Matris Dolorosae in Bochum- Stiepelmann the monastic life began ... Thus, written on parchment, which was sunk on May 3, 1989 by Cardinal Hengsbach in the foundation of the newly established Cistercian monastery begins. Since the establishment of numerous entry has occurred, so that the foundation after 25 years may claim as a success. A survey of the abbey is still pending.

Today the monks look after the pilgrimage, perform the solemn choral prayer by Cistercian tradition, bear responsibility for the parish, working as a pastor in the neighboring parishes and act as spiritual directors, not least for the students from the nearby Ruhr University.
