Stihl Timbersports Series

The Stihl Timber Sports Series developed from the competitions of forestry workers in the forests of Canada and the United States. The motor equipment manufacturer Stihl has professionalized the competitions, as new competitors are prepared in training camp.

History

The Stihl Timber Sports Series is an international series of competitions in lumberjack sports. They evolved from competitions in Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Australia. In the history of timber felling the forest workers have conducted competitions, it was the origin of the professional competitions.

1985 founded the Stihl Timber Sports Series as championship series in the United States, Andreas Stihl AG & Co. KG.

2001 Stihl Timber Sports Series was introduced with national championships in several European countries and a European Championship.

In 2005 the first Stihl Timber Sports World Cup was conducted. It is a two-day competition in various disciplines, both in single as well as in a team competition.

Disciplines

In this series, six disciplines are defined:

  • Standing Block Chop: This discipline simulates the felling of a tree with an ax. A standing wood block with 30 cm diameter has to be chopped from two sides.
  • Underhand Chop: The submission of this discipline is the cutting of a tree that has already been made. On a lying piece of wood 32 cm diameter standing, it must be chopped from two sides.
  • Springboard: This discipline is based on an operation of the forestry workers, in which the lumberjacks cut down the tree on the root pieces. To this end, scores were hacked into the tree in order to secure a board as a support surface can. The operation was repeated until the working height is achieved. In this discipline two boards on a piece of timber in the manner described above must be attached and a top-mounted, 27 cm thick piece of wood from two sides are chopped.
  • Stihl Stock Saw: This discipline is with commercial power saws, which are prepared by a technician cut. From a master piece two slices must be cut in a downward motion and an up -section, which must have a certain thickness.
  • Single Buck: This discipline goes back to working with the crosscut saw and represents the cutting of a tree trunk with the crosscut saw after. The block of wood, of which a disk to be cut off, is 46 cm thick. It assists in this discipline a helper who has to lubricate the saw and drive a wedge between the block and pulley.
  • Hot Saw: The Hot Saw discipline is cut with chainsaws Build Your Own or with a saw made ​​by Stihl. These saws have over 44 kW and weigh about 27 kg. It must in this competition three slices are cut from the tree, which in turn must have a certain thickness.

World Championships

The World Cup 2013 was conducted on 25 / 26 October in Stuttgart Porsche Arena. There were more than 100 athletes from over 20 nations to gegeneineinander.
