Stijn Coninx

Stijn Coninx ( born February 21, 1957 in Neerpelt, Belgium) is a Flemish film director. He became known in Europe through the films Daens - Priest of the dispossessed with Jan Decleir and the hour of the light with Joachim Król.

Biography

Early work

Coninx attended from 1975 to film school in Brussels, where he graduated in 1980 with honors. As an assistant director, he worked in the following years with leading filmmakers Flamens so with Paul Collet, Patrick Lebon, Jaco Van Dormael and Dominique Deruddere. In 1987, he directed her first. The comedy Hector with the comedian Urbanus was a huge success in Belgium and the Netherlands, so that Coninx with Koko flannel another Urbanus comedy successfully launched three years later in the cinemas.

Daens

1991 realized Coninx the historical film Daens based on the story of the priest Pieter Daens, who had successfully used in Belgium of the 19th century for the improvement of living and working conditions of child laborers in factories Weber. After five years Coninx was working on a new film. The project of a love story in the Arctic between a student ( Francesca Vanthielen ) and a Trapper (Joachim Król ) was shot under harsh climatic conditions and was entitled The Moment of Light (1998, OT light) successfully in the European cinema and won prizes on several Nordic festival. While Coninx waited for the financing of his next project, he took over work for television, staged around for the comedy series Het Peulengaleis and nefast voor de feestvreugde.

In 2003, more than the moon (OT Verder dan de maan ) in the cinemas. In yet another genre to Coninx approached this time the perspective of a nine year old girl, threatens to fall apart before their First Communion whose family, as the father drinks. The film won all the major awards at the Frankfurt Lucas International Film Festival and was subsequently brought in Germany in the cinemas.

His latest film came on 25 April 2007 in the Belgian cinema and is called To Walk Again.

Coninx is married, has three children and lives near Brussels.
