Stills Alone

Stills Alone is the ninth solo studio album by American rock musician Stephen Stills. As indicated in the title, Stills has recorded the album alone without a band. On most of the tracks he sings on acoustic guitar, but at Is not It Just Is not Like You So, and he also plays guitar and percussion on Amazonia.

Stills Alone was the first album of the artist, which did not appear on a major record label. Stills released his solo albums until 1974 on Atlantic Records, played 1975-1978 three albums for Columbia Records and finally returned back to Atlantic in 1984, where he produced a flop with the album Right By You. While all of his solo albums except for a few titles by working with a big band and numerous instruments distinguished, Stills Alone is lifted due to its minimalistic arrangements on it. The album emphasizes Stills ' qualities as an outstanding guitarist, with critics had to be stated, that his voice had become indeed very striking, but also less extensive. This is evident in My Life or compared to his singing on the piece Singin 'Call mainly in the cover of Beatles songs, which was created in 1971 during the recording of his album Stephen Stills 2, and only now - twenty years later - was released on Stills alone in an acoustic version.

Perhaps the most important piece on the album is the song Treetop Flyer, in which it comes to a pilot from the Vietnam War who now uses his flying skills to get as a smuggler to money. The song was released as a single and indeed had no success in the charts, but it developed into one of the most popular songs during live performances of the artist, the line " I'll fly any cargo you can pay did to run" on later stage in " I'll fly whiskey for you; most anything but guns" changed ( be heard on his live album Live at Shepherd 's Bush, 2009). An early demo version of the song is since 2007 as a bonus track on the album, Just Roll Tape - April 26th, 1968,, another live version can be found on the Crosby, Stills and Nash - disk live in LA, which also appeared in 2007. The American singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne stated in an interview to have started at all through the song Treetop Flyer a career as a professional musician.

Stills Alone was not a commercial success. After Stills ' solo albums since the late 1970s, however, were continuously worse in the eyes of critics and fans, the record marked a first artistic peak for a long time and was for many fans nothing less than a musical revelation. The album is no longer applied and is therefore only difficult (or very expensive) available.
