Stipe Å uvar

Stipe Suvar ( born February 17, 1936 in Zagvozd, Dalmatia, Yugoslavia (now Croatia), † June 22, 2004 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav or Croatian politician and sociologist.

Life

Stipe Suvar studied law and sociology at the University of Zagreb. In 1955, he joined the League of Communists of Yugoslavia ( BDKJ ). 1968-1972 he was the editor of the journal Naše systems ( Our topics ), from 1983 to 1987 the journal Socijalizam ( socialism). At the University of Zagreb, he was a lecturer from 1967, from 1974 as assistant professor and from 1982 worked as a professor of sociology.

He became a member of the Central Committee of the BDK Croatia in 1972, from 1974 to 1982 he was Minister of Education and Culture in SR Croatia. From 1986 he was a member of the Central Committee from 1988 to 1989 and Chairman of the BDKJ. Suvar was initially rather as a hardliner, then showed up but when BDKJ - Chairman to reforms and advocated the task of the power monopoly of the party.

After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, Suvar initially withdrew from politics. In 1994 he was the standing in opposition to the Tuđman government magazine Ljevica Hrvatska (Croatian left ) out. In 1997 he founded the Socijalistička Radnička Partija (Socialist Labor Party ) and became its chairman.
