The Stockholm- class is named after the first ship of a series of two ships, Stockholm and Malmo, named, built by Kockums in Malmö. The Stockholm -Class is the fourth generation of vehicle series that began in the 1960s with the torpedo boat Spica. The Swedish Navy they called corvettes, by German standards one would have to classify as speedboats.

The first vehicle, the Stockholm, ran on August 22 launched in 1984. Godfather was the then Defence Minister Anders Borg tuna. The second vehicle, Malmö, ran on 23 March 1985 by the stack and godfather was Prince Bertil. After the test drives the ships were put at the service of the Swedish Navy on 1 May 1986. In 1999 they were modernized.
