Stockholm Ring Road

The Ringled Stockholm ( Stockholm ring ) is a planned and so far unfinished city highway ring around the center of Stockholm with the following sections (clockwise): Essingeleden, Norra Länken, Österleden and Södra Länken.

For the beltway around Stockholm there were serious plans since the 1960s. The realization of the entire ring, however, was constantly postponed, partly through lack of funds, partly by the growing resistance of the population, which reached its climax in 1971 in the so-called war elms. Until then, only the western section of the Ringled Stockholm was opened, the Essingeleden ( inauguration in 1966 ) and later over a kilometer long section of the Norra Länken ( inauguration in 1991 ).

In 1992, a generous transport plan for Stockholm was presented, the so-called Dennis Convention, which among other things also updated the motorway ring again. 1997 Dennis the Convention was broken, but before had already started with the construction of Södra Länken and it was decided to build to complete ( inauguration in 2004 ).

In 2006, after five years of delays, Länken be continued to the east with the construction of Norra. The planning proved especially complicated because of the five -kilometer-long tunnel of Norra Länken crosses under parts of the national city park and it had to take special precautions. The opening of the Norra Länken is planned for 2015.

The Stockholm Straßenbauamt worked in 2007 on preliminary studies for the eastern link, Österleden also called Östlig förbindelse. Also the Österleden crosses under the National City Park (Part Djurgården ) in a long tunnel, which will shape the future planning is not easy. 2020 at the earliest can be started with the construction, the construction time for about ten years can be calculated. The traffic load is already a day on the finished sections of more than 100,000 vehicles.
