Stockwell Day
Stockwell Burt Day, PC ( born August 16, 1950 in Barrie (Ontario ), Canada ) is a Canadian politician.
Biography
Day began his political career in 1986 with the first election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, where he took up in 2000 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, the interests of the constituency of Red Deer.
In the application made by the Progressive Conservative government of Prime Minister Ralph Klein, he held various positions such as the Minister of Labour from 1992 to 1994 as well as the Minister of Social Services from 1996 to 1997, until he was finally from March 1997 to 2000 Chancellor of the Exchequer ( Treasurer ) and such as during an economic boom in the oil and gas- rich province on a multi-billion Canadian dollars could have large budget surplus.

Internal party disputes within the Canadian Alliance led Day in July 2001 to hold elections for the party presidency in March 2002. However, on December 12, 2001, he resigned as party leader ahead of schedule and was replaced by John Douglas Reynolds, who took over the position on an interim basis. However, Day ran again as party chairman at the party congress in March 2002, but lost it Stephen Harper. After the merger of the Canadian Alliance with the Progressive Conservative Party to the Conservative Party of Canada in December 2003, he joined this and takes as its candidate continue the constituency Okonagan - Coquihalla in the House.

Since a new government reshuffle on 19 January 2010, he is now President of the Treasury ( President of the Treasury Board).
