Stokes County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Danbury.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern North Carolina, bounded on the north Virginia and has an area of 1181 square kilometers, of which 10 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rockingham County, Forsyth County and Surry County.

History

Stokes County was formed in 1798 from parts of Surry County. It was named after Captain John Stokes an officer in the Revolutionary War and later judge for the U.S. District Court of North Carolina ..
