Stokhid River

The Stochid in winter

The river Stochid (Ukrainian Стохід; Russian Стоход / Stochod ) is one of four major rivers in the Volyn oblast. It rises between the cities of Lutsk and Volodymyr- Wolynskyj. The catchment area is 3150 m². It flows through any major cities and leads finally to 188 km to the north near the Oblastgrenze in Pripyat. On average, 5 to 15 m wide, up to 60 m. Its slope is 0.4 m / km.

In the middle and lower reaches, it divides and forms a network of numerous parallel arms, hence the name " Sto - chid " ( a hundred ways ). In winter it is usually frozen, Eisaufbruch in March. The water quality is good ( mesotrophic ).

There are two hydrological measurement level:

  • Malyniwka EZG 692 km ² in 1923 (July 14, 1945): low of 99 cm, 374 cm high, MQ 1.84 m³ / s
  • Ljubeschiw EZG: 2970 km ² since July 20, 1922: low of 116 cm, 298 cm high, MQ 11.8 m³ / s ( according to other sources, 13.5 m³ / s)

The discharge rate per unit area of catchment is 2.71 or 2.66 L / ( sec * km ²) for the two levels is relatively low (compared to rivers around half as high, ie the Stochid is characterized by a relatively high evaporation of water in the catchment ). The average flood discharge is 19 or 73 m³ / s, the highest measured flood - drain 64 and 227 m³ / s The lowest measured flow rate was 0.15 or 2.58 m³ / s for Malinowka level or levels Lubeschow.

On Stochid was during the First World War, in June 1916 to late summer of 1917, the front line between the Central Powers and the Russian army. Heavy fighting took place during the Brusilov offensive in the summer of 1916 here.
