History

The Amtshauptmannschaft Stollberg was created in 1910 and renamed the district Stollberg 1939. In 1950, the district was initially dissolved. Already in 1952, however, the district Stollberg arose again and was in constant territorial composition of the 1952 until 1994. On August 1 of the year came the city Zwoenitz (until then district of Aue ) and the dissolved district Chemnitz- country communities Einsiedel, Kemtau, Burkhardt village, Adorf, Klaffenbach and Neukirchen to the district. 1997 were incorporated into the city of Chemnitz Einsiedel and Klaffenbach.

By revisiting administrative reform in Saxony, the counties Annaberg, Aue- Schwarzenberg, Erzgebirge District Middle and Stollberg were merged on 1 August 2008 as the new arch mountain.

Policy

District Administrator of Stollberg was 1990-2008 Udo Hertwich.
