Storey County, Nevada

The Storey County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nevada. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Virginia City.

History

The county was founded in 1861 and was named after Captain Edward Fariss Storey, who in one of the " Indian Wars " was killed in 1860, named. The County is relatively small, since the Countygebiet at the time of the founding was most populated in Nevada. Virginia City has always been the administrative center. The County should first McClellan County are named after General McClellan.

According to the census of 2000, there were 3,399 people in the county. There were 1,462 households, and 969 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.00 % White, 0.29 % African American, 1.44 % Native American, 1.00 % Asian, 0.15 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.68 % from other races groups; 2.44% were descended from two or more races. 5.12% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,462 households out of which 21.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.60 % were married couples living together, 7.50 % had a female householder with no husband. 33.70% were non-families. 25.60 % of all households and 6.90% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.74 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 19.70 % under the age of 18, 4.70 % from 18 to 24, 26.80 % from 25 to 44 years, 35.70% between 45 and 64 years and 13.10% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 107.60 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.10 males.

The median income for a household was $ 45,490, and the median income for a family was $ 57,095. Males have a median income of $ 40,123, women $ 26,417. The per capita income was $ 23,642. 5.80% of the population and 2.50 % of families are below the poverty line. 4.20 % of those under age 18 and 4.80 % were 65 years or older.
