Stormers

The Stormers ( engl. the striker, formerly known as Western Stormers ) are a rugby union team from the South African city of Cape Town. She plays in the international Super 14 League. The home games are played at Newlands Stadium.

History

For the start of the Super 12 in 1996, the four best teams in the Currie Cup, which included the Western Province qualified. In the first season they were only second to last. For the second season they could not qualify. For season 1998 continued the South African Association on a franchise system, as was customary in Australia and New Zealand, so that the teams did not have to qualify via a detour. Among the four newly formed teams included the Stormers, which was made up of the players circle the Western Province.

In the 1999 season the Stormers gained the greatest success to date with the semi-finals. There they were subject to the Highlanders with 18:33. In the following season they managed to almost again in the round of four to collect, but at the end was missing one point for fourth place. They could not build on the success in the coming seasons and came twice on the seventh and once in the ninth. During the 2004 season, they returned on track and secured themselves a place in the semi-finals again. There she lost in the Crusaders with 16:27.

In the following years, it is no longer managed the Stormers to move into the final round. This was achieved again until 2010, when they lost to the Bulls in the finals.
