Storozhynets Raion

Rajon Storoschynez (Ukrainian Сторожинецький район / rayon Storoschynezkyj; Russian Сторожинецкий район / Storoschinezki raion, Romanian Raionul Storojineţ ) is a raion ( administrative district) in the Chernivtsi Oblast, in western Ukraine.

The center is the city of Rajons Storoschynez, it is bordered on the north by the Rajon Kizman, on the northeast by the Oblasthauptstadt Czernowitz, in the east and southeast by the Rajon Hlyboka, to the south by Romania and on the west by Rajon Wyschnyzja.

The Rajon was built in 1940 after the occupation of Northern Bukovina to the Soviet Union as part of the Ukrainian SSR, about 60 percent of the population in 2001 gave their nationality with Ukrainian to 37 percent Romanian.

From 1946 to 1995, the villages wore different names:

  • Panka: Klyniwka ( Клинівка )
  • Tschudej: Meschyritschtschja ( Межиріччя )
