Story County, Iowa
The Story County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 89 542 inhabitants and a population density of 60.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Nevada, named after the Sierra Nevada.
Geography
The County is situated near the geographic center of Iowa and has an area of 1,486 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Story County was formed on 13 January 1846. It was named after Joseph Story (1779-1845), a judge on the United States Supreme Court ( U.S. Supreme Court ).
The first white settlers came from Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania. These were followed by Norwegians, Danes and German. In 1852 there were 214 inhabitants in the County, in 1860, these were already 4,501th On June 27, 1853 Nevada was chosen as the district capital. The first railway connection was made in 1864.
