Stourpaine

Stourpaine is a place in the north of Dorset, England. The village has its origins in the Saxon period and the name simply means " owned by the Payn family on the Stour ".

The village lies on the River Stour and the A350 in the southeastern corner of the Blackmore Vale, under the limestone plateau Cranborne Chase, three miles northwest of Blandford.

The construction of a church was begun in 1190 on the site of the present church of the Holy Trinity and completed around 1300.

In a field near the church there are the remains, which indicate the former castle and a mill. Roman weapons, artifacts and ceramics were on top of a hill, along with several Roman coins have been found.

The village had in 2001 a population of 608 people.
