Strahov Stadium

The Strahov Stadium ( Czech Velky Strahovsky stadium, stadium Strahov or Strahovsky stadion) is a stadium in the Strahov district of Prague. At the time of Czechoslovakia summed it up to 250,000 spectators and thus is still true today as the largest stadium in the world.

Location

The stadium is located on the west side of Petrin ( Petrin ). You can do it with the Petrin funicular that goes up the mountain from the small side, and reach with several bus lines. Are the stadium Evžena Rošického, 2000-2008 Venue Slavia Prague, more stadiums as well as the now used as Studentensiedlung Spartakiade former village in the vicinity.

History

The plans for the stadium were created in 1926 by the architect Alois Dryák. The first stadium was still built with wood stands, but these were replaced in 1932 by concrete grandstands. Other development work took place in 1948 and 1975. The playing field is surrounded on all sides by bleachers and has an area of ​​62 876 m², ie approx. 200 m × 300 m tall.

During the First Republic and in 1948 took place in the Strahov Stadium gymnastics events at the Sokol and later in the CSSR Spartakiads with up to 10,000 gymnasts and other mass events. It was also the venue for some rock concerts. Bands such as U2, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd played here before more than 150,000 spectators.

Today's state

Today, located in the interior of the stadium, the office of Sparta Prague and a training center with eight soccer fields ( six points in standard size and two reduced fields). Also, here home games are played by Sparta 2nd team and the youth teams. In the last decade, several studies have considered the possible reuse and preservation of this unique building into consideration. In July 2010, the stadium was used as the venue for the World Ultimate Club Championships ( WUCC 2010).
