Stranger Cole

Stranger Cole ( b. 1945 as Wilburn Theodore Cole in Kingston, Jamaica ) is a major Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae singer and composer. His nickname Stranger he obtained because he resembled no externally in his family.

Biography

His career started when he released his debut single Rough & Tough with the well-known producer and musician Duke Reid in 1962. This ska song quickly became a bestseller in his native Jamaica. He had his next hit with the cover song Run Joe in 1965. Originally came the song of the U.S. R & B artist Louis Jordan. Stranger Cole regularly performed with duet partners, such as Ken Boothe, Gladstone Anderson, or the singer Patsy Todd, with the Ska - size Derrick Morgan was on stage.

Stranger Cole ended his collaboration with Duke Reid, when ska music lost its popularity. After he worked with various other music producers such as Lee " Scratch" Perry, Bunny Lee, and Sonia Pottinger, he finally went in 1971 to England, where he particularly with Derrick Morgan and Max Romeo graduated many performances beginning of the 1970s. In 1973 he emigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he released three more albums until 1982. In 2003, Trojan Records Sampler brought the Bangarang: The Best of Stranger Cole 1962-1972. He now lives back in Jamaica.
