Stratos (lake)

The Stratos Reservoir ( Greek τεχνητή λίμνη Στράτου ) is the third of four reservoirs in the course of the river Achelous. It is located in the prefecture of Aetolia - Acarnania, West Greece region, north-northwest of the city of Agrinio and east of the village Stratos and south of the city Amfilohia. South of the 1989 -built Stratos Dam (Greek φράγμα Στράτου ) runs the National Road 5 ( European Route 951) from Ioannina in the north to Arta, Agrinio and Messolonghi in the south.

The storage space of the lake is a minimum of 60 million m³ and a maximum of 70.2 million m³. The reservoir is primarily used for power generation; the installed capacity of the four turbines combined is 150 MW. On the dam itself a national water-ski center is set up by the Greek Federation for water skiing.
