Field of activity

Straumann has occurred through the acquisition of etkon, a leader in CAD / CAM tooth restoration, in the market of restorative dentistry. This enables Straumann to offer surgical, restorative and regenerative solutions that range from bone augmentation and tissue regeneration on dental implants and prosthetics, to individualized crowns and bridges.

In collaboration with hospitals, research institutes and universities, the company researches and develops implants, instruments and tissue regeneration products for use in tooth replacement solutions or to prevent tooth loss. The implants and instruments are produced in Switzerland and the USA, the oral tissue regeneration in Sweden. The restorative products are manufactured both in Europe and in the USA.

In addition, Straumann also offers training and services to the dental profession, including training and education, which are carried out in collaboration with the International Team for Implantology ( ITI).

History

The history of the Straumann Group is divided into three sections and spans more than half a century. They started in 1954 in the Swiss village of Waldenburg with the research institute, which was named after its founder, Reinhard Straumann, named.

1954 - 1970

Between 1954 and 1970, the company specialized in metal alloys for watchmaking and material testing. Among Straumann's renowned inventions visiting this year include special alloys, which are still used in watch springs ( Nivarox ). A breakthrough in the use of non-corroding alloys in the treatment of bone fractures prompted Fritz Straumann, to deal with orthopedic and dental implantology, which began the second phase of the company's history.

1970 - 1990

Between 1970 and 1990, Straumann became a leading manufacturer of osteosynthesis implants. A management buy-out of the osteosynthesis division in 1990 led to the creation of Stratec ( subsequently Synthes ). This was also the founding of the company in its present form. Thomas Straumann, grandson of the founder, focused with the remaining 25 persons exclusively on dental implantology. The 1980s were with the establishment of offices in Germany (1980 ) and the USA (1989 ) marked the geographical expansion.

  • The first dental implants in 1974 developed in the Institute Straumann and tested at the University of Bern successful clinically.
  • Under the leadership of Fritz Straumann, Waldenburg, and André Schroeder, University of Bern, 1980, the International Team for Implantology ( ITI), was founded. Straumann enters into a partnership with the ITI.

After a management buy -out of osteosynthesis Division 1990 Thomas Straumann focuses the Institut Straumann AG to the field of oral implantology.

Straumann is the leading company in the sector that offers surgical, restorative and regenerative solutions from the bone to the crown. The product range includes implants and prosthetic components (abutments ), connect the implant with the visible crown of the replacement tooth. The offer is completed by matching precision instruments and additional components.

All components of the Straumann Dental Implant System are manufactured to meet the highest quality standards and thus ensure long-term quality and reliability. Straumann also offers a CAD / CAM based service for creating highly esthetic tooth replacement solutions. These can range from single-tooth inlays and crowns to 14 -unit bridges in different materials - including high-tech ceramic - rich.

In addition to the dental implant and restoration system through Straumann products for oral tissue regeneration forth, either to support implant procedures or to help preserve teeth after periodontal treatment.

The Group manufactures implant system components and instruments in Villeret ( Switzerland ) and Andover (USA), the oral tissue regeneration in Malmö (Sweden). The products for dental restoration are produced in Europe and the USA.

Villeret

The main components of the Straumann ® Dental Implant System are manufactured in the Straumann production facility in Villeret, Switzerland. It is on the cutting edge of technology and each year more than 4.5 million parts are manufactured.

The production facility in Villeret entered service in 2000. The ongoing global volume growth outpaced capacity expansion necessary, so that a second production area was established in 2005. Since then, two completely independent production lines in operation, the surgical products (implants ) and the other abutments for implant prosthetics products manufactured. In Villeret is the production line for SLActive, third-generation implant surface technology.

Andover

In Andover, at the North American headquarters, is the first manufacturing unit Straumann outside of Switzerland, are produced in the implant system components and instruments.

The 7,400 -square-foot production facility was taken in June 2005. It complements the production factory in Villeret, and is focused on the processing of titanium. The new facility meets the same stringent quality requirements as the Villeret to guarantee the Straumann Swiss precision - even Made in USA.

Malmö

Iin the production facility in Malmö are produced, renewable products. In June 2003, Straumann acquired the Swedish company Biora, which specializes in the production of Emdogain ®, a product of protein-based tissue regeneration. The production of Emdogain, a protein-based gel for use in periodontal disease, is carried out in Malmö.
