Strečno

Strečno (Hungarian Sztrecsény - to 1902 Sztrecsnó - older even Sztrecsén ) is a town about 7 km southeast of the city of Žilina located.

Geography

Here the river Waag ( Vah ) breaks through the Small Fatra ( Lesser Fatra ).

History

The village was mentioned in 1300 for the first time. During this time the castle was built by Matthew Csák, which was destroyed in 1698.

Tourism

Strečno is surrounded by mountains and destination for tourists, because insert here very picturesque and romantic Strečno the castle and another castle ruins in the river valley. The hitherto quiet river Vah impressed here by rapids, allowing raft trips.
