Streetsboro is a city in Portage County in the U.S. state of Ohio. It was formed from the former Streetsboro Township, which was one of the original Western Reserve was founded on the territory of the State of Connecticut end of the 18th century claimed Connecticut townships. Streetsboro is now statistically part of the Akron metropolitan area (Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area ).

Geography

The square city of Streetsboro is 63.1 km ² and is located in the northeast corner of Portage County. Streetsboro is located at the intersection of several state roads south of the Ohio Turnpike ( Interstate 80 ) and has a direct access to Interstate 480 Similar to the nearby towns of Hudson and Stow outweigh residential areas in the city proper area, especially between the city center and Interstate. The rest of the management area is occupied by open grasslands and small forest areas.

Population

The city had in the census ( Census ) in 2006, 14,185 inhabitants. More than 95 % of residents were white, and 2% African- American. The per capita income was $ 21,764.

In July 2009, the population was 14 711, representing an increase of 19.5 % over the year 2000.

History

Long before settlers in the Connecticut Western land came, the region of Indians of the Seneca tribe was inhabited.

The present city was founded in 1798 by Titus Street. 1825 road between Cleveland and Wellsville was built, which was also by Streetsboro. The place was known in the second half of the 19th century mainly by its cheese production. In 1885 more than 600,000 pounds of cheese were produced in five manufacturing plants.

To greater growth occurred with the construction of the Ohio Turnpike in the 1950s. Due to the proximity to Akron and Cleveland and the rapidly growing automotive industry as well as excellent transport links and the population rose disproportionately from 1957. 1968 decided that the citizen is the merger of place and township, so that the current urban area evolved with a floor area of 25 square miles. Until the early 1970s the town area was still largely dominated by agriculture, before it came to a rapid growth of existing residential areas today.
